The Rogers 82 is a new generation of Cruiser Racer combining comfort, style and high performance - a balance often proving hard to achieve in a yacht of this size. Her elegant lines, Med-style cockpit and contemporary interior makes her the perfect fast cruising yacht and is guaranteed to turn heads wherever she goes.

The Rogers 82 is constructed entirely from pre-preg carbon utilising the latest aerospace technologies. She is currently in build at Goetz Custom Boats, USA – the builder of choice for 6 America’s Cup syndicates and 9 America’s Cup boats. She will be launched in Spring 2010.

The design has been in development for over a year and Rogers Yacht Design have transferred many of the technologies used in their racing yachts to guarantee a light, stiff and robust structure. An extensive tank testing and CFD program has been completed, to optimise the hull form for the IRC rating rule, making her a perfect choice for the new Cruiser Racer class for the Med circuit. Considerable effort has been spent on ensuring that all the sail handling systems are fit for racing and every manoeuvre can be achieved with minimum effort, whilst the aesthetics of the design are also respected and comfort maximised for extended cruising.

Her interior is light and contemporary and has been designed to suit the specific requirements of the individual owner. The current interior allows the owner to occupy the whole yacht from the saloon forward and gain a high degree of privacy, whilst also being able to create two separate cabins forward when cruising with guests. The saloon is spacious with an open plan layout, with the galley off to one side this then leads to the crew cabin aft, with an additional guest cabin on the opposing side. The flexible interior offers future owners the ability to specify a bespoke arrangement to suit their individual aspirations.

Externally the Rogers 82 has several distinctive features, the most significant being her large lazarette with direct deck access via her cockpit ‘bomb doors’ (not via the transom). The lazerette can house a 3.25m Williams Jet tender with ample additional space for equipment. The movement of ‘toys’ is easily achieved with the provision for a removable, electric Atlas Carbon Davit. Her deck layout is clean and simple and at a glance, her racing pedigree is clear; balance this with her spacious and comfortable super-yacht interior and you have the Rogers 82 – a true ‘Performance Cruiser Racer’.

The design is available for future production in a semi-custom format, allowing clients to optimise the yacht for their specific requirements.

Increasing interest in the mini-maxi racing circuit and perceived gaps in the market either side of the likes of Swan and Wally have led to this impressive looking 82-foot high performance cruiser from the board of Simon Rogers. She's being built for British owner Brian Benjamin and was unveiled earlier today at the Monaco Yacht Show.

Rogers Yacht Design, whose involvement with the Artemis Open 60 project, Class 40 campaigns and some hot IRC designs, has equipped them with the latest in fast boat thinking, reckons this new Goetz built, all carbon sloop will be 10 tons lighter than current performance cruisers of equivalent size and is predicted to sail upwind at 10.5 knots in 18 knots of breeze.

The yacht will weigh in at 30 tons in race mode but can be re-configured to cruise converting a massive lazarette into a garage capable of housing a 3.25m RIB. The entire sail wardrobe of about 20 sails, together with other race equipment can be stowed in the lazarette for re-positioning, avoiding the need for a support container.

Brian Benjamin currently owns the Luca Brenta 65 Aegir built by Maxi Dolphin and the new yacht will bear the same name. Benjamin has specified that the 82 should perform dual roles of cruising and racing and by keeping the yacht relatively simple with a fixed bulb keel she should be an easy yacht to handle and maintain. She will be fitted with a versatile lightweight but luxury accommodation with the owner's quarters accounting for almost the entire forward half of the yacht.

Simon Rogers has been careful to keep her long enough to make her eligible for superyacht regattas but small enough to get involved with the increasingly popular mini maxi regattas which race under IRC and which are planning a world championship next year pending approval from ISAF.

The Class 40 2008 season ended on a high for Tanguy de Lamotte and the Rogers Class 40s in general. Tanguy recently took part in the Morbihan Mondail 40 event in La Trinite sur Mer, which proved to be a true international event with 20 competeing boats. Tanguy and his crew won 4 out of the 5 races and took the tile of Class 40 2008 overall Champion. Mention must also be given to Mark Wynne-Smith and his crew who gained a 5th overall.

2008 has been a remarkable season for the Rogers boats and we are delighted with the many podium positions that have been achieved by our owners. We all look forward to following the 2009 season
